Join Yiman, Ghungalu, Gurreng Gurreng artist, long-time Northern Rivers resident, and former Indigenous Park Ranger, Anthony J. Walker in conversation with Robert Appo, Aboriginal Project Officer, Byron Shire Council, as they discuss ‘caring for Country’ and the exhibition Saltwater Currents: First Nations Seascapes and Contemporary Artefacts from Saltwater Country. Stay for a cuppa and afternoon tea in the Gallery Foyer.

Monica Rohan Oil Painting Workshop: Textiles

Join artist Monica Rohan for a one-and-a-half-day oil painting workshop. Monica will invite participants to experiment with textiles and fabric patterning as they complete a small painting inspired by objects from Margaret Olley’s re-creation studio and the Gallery surrounds. Stay afterward and enjoy the Annual Community Picnic & Paint on Sunday afternoon. Some experience required.

In conjunction with Margaret Olley: from the collection on display at the Gallery 10 May – 11 August 2024.

Annual Community Picnic & Artist Paint Out

Bring the whole family along to this popular annual event in the grounds of the Tweed Regional Gallery, with spectacular views to Wollumbin. Enjoy live music, free art activities for kids and make your own work en plein air.

Monica Rohan is our special guest artist for this year’s event. She will be on hand to mentor and chat with artists and visitors, or simply enjoy the opportunity to see her make work in response to this stunning landscape.

So pack your picnic basket, a blanket and your paints and join us for an inspiring day of art, music, connection and community. NO BOOKINGS REQUIRED

Artist Paint Out: Artists are invited to come along and set up to work en plein air overlooking the stunning Tweed River and Wollumbin. Information for Artists.

Teacher Professional Development

The day will include a tour of Know My Name: Australian Women Artists, a painting techniques workshop and learning strategy session responding to works of art in the exhibition. The program will cater for all educational levels.

Know My Name: Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon

Just over 19% of biographies on Wikipedia are about women. When it comes to women artists and creators, that number is even lower.

Increase representation of women and gender diverse artists on Wikipedia in this interactive workshop.

Presented in partnership with Wikimedia Australia as part of the National Gallery’s Know My Name initiative.

No previous Wikipedia editing experience is necessary. Laptop required; Wi Fi provided.
