Margaret Olley provides a source of  inspiration

An Artist’s View brings together interior and still life paintings by Margaret Olley, alongside works by contemporary artists from the Tweed Regional Gallery’s collection.

These artists have taken inspiration from Olley, her practice and her famous Duxford Street home studio in Paddinton.

Encompassing paintings, photography and works on paper, the exhibition presents different artists’ views and responses to her still life and interior subjects.

“Artistic responses to Olley, her work and her home studio illustrate the inspirational force of this incredible artist,” Ms Muddiman OAM, Director of the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre said.

The Margaret Olley Art Centre is an important dedication to Margaret Olley – Australia’s most celebrated painter of still life and interiors – and continues to explore historical and contemporary aspects of this genre in Australia today.

“We are very proud that this exhibition is drawn from the Tweed Regional Gallery collection,” Ms Muddiman said.

Artists exhibiting alongside Margaret Olley include Steven Alderton, Danelle Bergstrom, Cressida Campbell, Christine Druitt-Preston, Nicholas Harding, John Honeywill, Lewis Miller, Christopher Shain, Greg Weight and William Yang.

The Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre is committed to the development and care of the Tweed Regional Gallery collection, a unique community asset.

The Gallery acknowledges the Margaret Olley Estate, the Tweed Regional Gallery Foundation Ltd., the Friends of Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre Inc., private donors and Gallery visitors for their ongoing support of the development of the Gallery’s collection.

Many works in this exhibition have been acquired for the collection through the generosity of the Gallery’s supporters.

An Artist’s View  will be on display in the Margaret Olley Art Centre at the Tweed Regional Gallery from Friday 25 February until Sunday 28 August 2022.
