The award-winning exhibition Pattern and Print: Easton Pearson Archive is coming to the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre later this month.

The exhibition is a celebration of the internationally-acclaimed fashion house, Easton Pearson.

Renowned as being among the cutting-edge of the fashion world between 1998 and 2016, this magnificent exhibition highlights the creative relationship and collaborative approach between Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson, whose unique ways of working fostered inventive designs, lasting collaborations and supported ethical manufacturing processes.

Featuring a specially curated selection of garments and fashion-related objects, Pattern and Print: Easton Pearson Archive showcases the daring design, technical innovations, bespoke fabrics and bold prints Easton Pearson became known for over its remarkable 28-year history.

“I’m incredibly excited and it is fascinating to have a curator come in and look at the garments in a different way, and present them as objects that have interest other than fashion,” Pamela Easton said.

As well as creating its own textile designs, setting it apart from other Australian fashion houses, Easton Pearson also worked with individual artists to create unique designs which ranged from colourful Indian hand beading, to bold digital prints of original artworks and designs painted by hand directly onto a finished dress.

The garments will be complemented by a custom mural produced by Brisbane-based painter, illustrator and long-time Easton Pearson collaborator, Stephen Mok, who created window designs for the label’s flagship store, hand-painted patterns onto garments and decorated accessories and props for the runway.

His playful aesthetic presents the fantastical world of Easton Pearson, where both simplicity and detail shine, and artistry triumphs.

Gallery Director Susi Muddiman OAM is looking forward to the exhibition.

“This exhibition – curated by the Museum of Brisbane – provides a looking glass into the history of Australian fashion, the process of creating garments and evolving aesthetics,” Ms Muddiman said.

“It is absolutely a must-see for textiles, fashion, art, design, technology, history students and enthusiasts.”

This is an exhibition by Museum of Brisbane (MoB), toured by Museums & Galleries Queensland and is assisted by the Australian Government's Visions of Australia program.

The Easton Pearson Archive gift to Museum of Brisbane has been made possible by the generous support of Dr Paul Eliadis AM, a Brisbane-based philanthropist and patron of contemporary art and design. Donated through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program. The Archive is complemented by supporting materials gifted by Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson.
