Tweed Regional Gallery features all female solo exhibitions

This International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March, Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre is celebrating the amazing work of female artists, both past and present.

Through programming and collecting, Tweed Regional Gallery continues to make concerted efforts to redress the gender imbalance that has long existed on the gallery walls of public institutions.

The 2019 Countess Report found that there has been an increase in the representation of female artists of between 10 to 20 per cent across artist-run spaces, commercial galleries, contemporary art organisations, public galleries and major museums.

Tweed Regional Gallery Director Susi Muddiman OAM said: “We acknowledge that the engagement of female artists can’t be a one-off exercise and requires a long-term commitment to equality on all levels.

“We’re incredibly proud to present a full exhibition program of Australian female artists across every exhibition space, including the annexe Gallery DownTown, this International Women’s Day. All of these artists demonstrate the strength and diversity of practice of female artists today.”

Exhibitions on International Women’s Day include:

Hiromi Tango: Healing Circle – Home; Catherine O’Donnell: Fibro Façade; JamFactory ICON Clare Belfrage: A Measure of Time; Anne Smerdon & Corinne Lewis: Captive Companions; Judy Oakenfull: Floral Appreciation; Haley Calderon: map of experience; Robyn Elizabeth: Inhale, Exhale, Release; and of course, Margaret Olley: Inspired.

Throughout 2020 Tweed Regional Gallery will also present the work of Sally Anderson, Victoria Reichelt, Tamara Dean, Pam Tippett, Cedar Jeffs, Gabriela Soelkner, Rhonda Armistead, Annie Long, Rae Saheli, Caroline Wisler and Rose Watson.
